Although the stamp set is called Happy Birthday to You, it can also be used for other occasions such as a wedding or an anniversary. I wanted to try to use the flowers and cake stand dies from the Birthday Dies and to do some stamping on DSP. Let’s see if I was successful.
Today’s Project
I used the Hand-Lettered Prose dies and the Woven Threads Designer Series paper to cut out the letters for ‘love’. I don’t use those dies very often and when I do use them, I wonder why I don’t use them more! They really are quite lovely.
To give the card some texture, I embossed the Smoky Slate layer with the Parisian Flourish Embossing Folder. Unlike yesterday’s card, you can really see the embossing on the lighter Smoky Slate cardstock!
I colored the flowers with the blends. I just love the blends and coloring with them! It’s so very calming, especially after a crazy day at work. I come home, stamp an image and start coloring and hope I can make a card out of what I’ve colored! I also did some paper piecing on this card by stamping the cake on the Woven Threads DSP and then cutting it out with the Birthday die. The flowers were stamped and cut out separately. I love, love, love that there’s a die for the cake with the flowers and then another one for the flowers by themselves! Here’s a closeup of the card.
You can really see how much texture the Parisian Flourish Embossing Folder adds to the card. Texture helps to make the card more interesting and less flat. And it’s so easy to add with Stampin’ Up!’s embossing folders and a die-cutting machine. You can’t really see how sparkly the flowers are, but trust me they are very sparkly. Of course, I used Clear Wink of Stella on them. I will be so sad if Stampin’ Up! retires that.
Make The Inside Pretty
Whenever you have a dark card base as this card has, you have to line the inside or you won’t be able to see the writing! Since I knew I was going to be writing a long note in this card, I only added two layers to the inside, to give me plenty of space to write!
Don’t Forget the Envelope
There really wasn’t a good image to stamp on the envelope because the flowers are so large. So, instead, I embossed the envelope flap with the Parisian Flourish Embossing folder. That ties the envelope flap back to the card front for a more cohesive package. What do you think? Does it work?
I’ll leave you with one last picture of the card with the envelope. If you’d like to make this card, the instructions are below. And, at the end of the post, you can find a list of supplies. Clicking on any item will take you to my online store.
