The new Art In Bloom bundle is amazing! When I first saw it in the new catalog, I thought it was just another floral image with dies. Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE floral images. In fact, I’ve loved flowers my whole life and when I’m not stamping or designing software, you can find me in my garden. So, what makes this so amazing? The stamps, dies, and embossing folder coordinate beautifully!
What is A Hybrid Embossing Folder?
What make the bundle so amazing is the hybrid embossing folder, Well, first is contains dies and an embossing folder – two in one. And, to make it better, you can emboss and cut the image at the same time. It produces amazing texture on the die cut! Here’s a look at the bundle.
Can you see the detail on that embossing folder? Well, when you put your cardstock in the folder and line up the dies in the embossing folder, it cuts and embosses at the same time! How amazing is that? And it’s a deep embossing!
ToDay’s Project
Here’s the card I created using this amazing bundle. Can you see the texture on the flowers? I also used a technique taught to me by Gail Ellis at https://bluerosepapertreasures.blogspot.com/. She’s an Australian demonstrator who does amazing work. So, what’s the technique? First, use sponge daubers to ink the edge of the flowers with the darkest color, in this case, Rich Razzleberry. Then, use a lighter color to highlight right next to the dark color. I used Fresh Freesia. Finally, take a spritzer filled with water and give it a spritz! The color ‘runs’ down toward the center giving a lovely ombre’ effect. I’ll be trying this on a lot of different flowers!
While the flowers were slightly damp, I curled them with my bone folder to give them some dimension. Then, I let them dry thoroughly before using them on the card. I could also have used by heat tool to speed it up, but it was bedtime so I let them dry overnight.
Today’s Color Pallette
Today’s color palette is quite simple, Blackberry Bliss Fresh Freesia, some greenery, and Basic White. Because the ink which is water-based was spritzed, you get a variety of shades as the color ‘runs’. The two new In Colors Soft Succulent and Evening Everygreen look so good together and with the purples!
Project Details
The sentiment is from Pansy Patch and was stamped in Blackberry Bliss. After stamping it, I used my bone folder to curl it a bit. When attaching it to the card, I used one dimensional on one end and two dimensionals stacked on the other end. This follows the line of the curve.
I combed through my embellishment stash to find the perfect center for the flowers. Alas, there was nothing that worked. So, I made my own! I colored some Pearl Basic Jewels with my Dark Fresh Freesia blend. Voila’! The perfect center.
The front panel was cut using the new Basic Borders dies! There are 6 of them and they make really cool edges. After cutting it, I used the Ornate Floral embossing folder to give it some texture.
Make the Inside Pretty & Don’t forget the Envelope
As you may have noticed, I used the Fresh Freesia Designer Series Paper (DSP) on the card front. Then, I used the leftovers on the envelope and on the inside. Finally, I cut the card insert using the same die as the panel on the front. You can find all the supplies needed to make this card at the end of this post.
