I have to admit, when I saw the preview for the August Paper Pumpkin kit, I was not impressed. Oh, it was worse than that! I had no idea what I was going to do with this. I’m past the age of having kids with teachers and coaches and medals. And, I’m not quite to the age of having grandkids with teachers, coaches, and medals. So with a little inspiration from the internet, I came up with 13 alternate ideas for cards from the kit! I’ll be sharing them with you over the next 4 days. I hope you are inspired to finish your kit!
Alternate Card #1 – A Shaker Card
I love to make shaker cards. I think they are so cool and my grandson loves them because they shake! So that was one think I liked about this month’s kit, it has great supplies for making shaker cards. Take a look at this one.
Most of the supplies for this card came from the kit. I added a couple of banners cut from Pacific Point and Mint Macaron, using the Happy Dies. I also added some gold foil stars cut from the same dies. So, although, he’s not old enough for a trophy, I can still send him a shaker card describing him perfectly – World’s Greatest Kid!
Alternate Card #2 – Another Shaker Card
Looking at this card, you’re probably wondering how I got from trophies to a Sea Horse. Well, let me explain. One of the stampers in my class was using the vellum leaves from the kit and the negative image from punching out the Pacific Point circles and it made me think of seaweed. So, I embossed one of the Mint Macaron backgrounds with the Seabed 3D embossing folder and then I started coloring. There was no plan to the coloring, I just started picking markers and blends that I though would look good. And then, I made it into a shaker using supplies from the kit and some retired iridescent sequins.
I thought it needed a little something more than just the shaker part, so I stamped a seahorse from Seaside Notions using Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with a Mint Macaron Blend. I also discovered that one of the Stitched Shapes Circle dies matched the size of the Pacific Point circles in the kit. So I could make the layers any color I want! For this card, I cut a Mint Macaron circle. Then I cut a Whisper White circle using the layering circle dies and stamped the sentiment on it using Mint Macaron ink. I finished it off with 3 sequins from the iridescent sequins. I think this one is my favorite!
AlternAte Card #3 – Using the Negative Space
For this card, I’m using the ‘scrap’ that’s left after punching out the Pacific Point circles. I got the idea for this card from Karen Titus, my up-up line. I stamped the sentiment from the kit using Merry Merlot ink on one of the backgrounds from the kit. Then I sponged one of the vellum leaves from the kit with Merry Merlot ink and set it on the background. I didn’t want to glue it down because I wanted the dimension. Then, I put the scrap on top using dimensionals. Finally, I added a few Blue Gems to finish it off.
Alternate Card #4 – World’s Greatest Friend
For this card, I used the Stitched Rectangle dies to create a Mint Macaron layer for the back ground from the kit. Then I used the Stitched Shapes dies to cut a Petal Pink circle as the layer for the stamped image from the kit. For a little more texture, I used the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder to emboss the gold foil elements from the kit. I sponged the vellum leaves with Petal Pink ink to give them some color. I finished off the card with a few of the sequin stars that came with the kit.
I hope you enjoyed these 4 alternate cards and that they inspire you! Check back tomorrow for the next 3 alternate cards from the August Paper Pumpkin kit. The supplies used in these cards can be found below with direct links to purchase them in my online store.
