As I was looking through my stamp sets for Valentine’s sentiments, I found Stampin’ Up!’s Beautiful Promenade stamp set. I originally bought it and coordinating dies because of the beautiful flowers and sentiments. I just love sentiments with mixed fonts. It never occurred to me that I’d use it on a Valentine, but here I go.
You can see some of the supplies I used on this card which was super simple to make! Here’s close up of the card.
I love the texture of the flax ribbon against the lace of the doily. And, have I mentioned that red & white is one of my favorite color schemes? I also like to frame my DSP with a very narrow frame of 3/16″ instead of the “standard” 1/4″. It’s just enough to offset the layer without overpowering it.
You can Make it, Too!
Beautiful Promenade Valentine
Instructions
- Fold a 5 1/2″ X 8 1/2″ piece of Real Red cardstock in half. Crease with a bone folder to get a nice crease.
- Cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock to 5 1/4″ X 4″.
- Cut a piece of the striped Designer Series Paper (DSP) to 5 1/16″ X 3 13/16″.
- Wrap a piece of Whisper White 5/8″ Flax Ribbon cut to 5.5″ around the DSP securing it with Mini Glue dots or Snail on the back. If it seems a little loose, put a Mini Glue dot under the ribbon where the heart will go.
- Mount the DSP on the Whisper White cardstock using Snail or Tombow liquid glue.
- Mount the Whisper White piece on the card front.
- Using paper snips, cut the inner heart from a Red Heart doily.
- Rub the Red Heart Doily using the embossing buddy to remove static.
- Stamp the sentiment on the Red Heart doily using Versamark ink.
- Sprinkle with White Stampin Emboss Powder. Heat set with the heat tool.
- Attach the White side of the doily to the card front using Tombow liquid glue.
- Attach the Red Heart to the card front using Tombow liquid glue.
- Attach 3 From My Heart Faceted Gems to the front using Mini Glue dots.
Make the Inside Pretty
I almost always decorate the inside of the card unless I have a lot to say to the recipient! I try to take an element from the front and repeat it on the inside for continuity. For this card, I took the lacy heart from the Heartfelt Photopolymer stamp set, inked it up with Real Red ink and stamped it 3 times on a 5 1/4″ X 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock which I attached to the inside of the card. This stamp “echos” the lacy image on the card front.
There’s still plenty of room to write whatever I want to the recipient. Now, if I was sending this to the troops (which I do with a LOT of my cards), I’d also line the other side with a Whisper White layer so the recipient would have plenty of room to write a message to their loved ones.
Don’t Forget The Envelope
I almost always decorate the envelope. It’s just a small extra that adds so much. In this case, I stamped the same image on the envelope front. Easy, peasy!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card. I’ve included a list of supplies so that you can make the card, too!
