As much as I love the Happy Birthday to You stamp set, I love the birthday dies more because they are so versatile. Sure you can cut out the cake with flowers, but you can also cut out the flowers separately and add some extra leaves for accents. Take a look at today’s card and you’ll see what I mean.
Today’s Project
I stamped the cake with the flowers 3 times on Whisper White cardstock. Then, I colored them with the blends and cut them out using the Birthday dies. I cut each set of flowers into two pieces which gave me 3 sets with two flowers and 3 sets with one flower. I arranged them on the Daffodil Delight layer and had one set of two flowers left over. So, I used it on the inside! You can’t see the gap in the middle of the card front, because I covered it with the heat embossed sentiment.
You may be wondering where I found the Night of Navy embossing powder. I didn’t! I used the trick of inking my stamp with Versamark and then with Night of Navy and using Clear embossing powder. Voila! It looks like I have Night of Navy embossing powder. Here’s a closer look.
I also cut out some sprigs using the Birthday Dies in the same colors as the rest of the card. They make a nice accent on the flowers. Although you can’t really see it clearly, I also embossed both Daffodil Delight layers with the Subtle 3D Embossing folder. This folder is one of my favorites. It gives some dimension to the card but doesn’t steal the show.
Make the Inside Pretty
I had one set of die-cut flowers left, so I glued it to a Daffodil Delight layer on the inside of the card. Normally I use Whisper White to line the inside, but Daffodil Delight is light enough that you can easily write on it. I didn’t want to use Whisper White because I wanted to keep the Daffodil Delight and Night of Navy colors the only colors on my card. What do you think? I think it looks great and ties in with the card front beautifully. Plus, I didn’t waste any of my colored images.
Don’t Forget the Envelope
For the envelope, I masked off (covered up) all but the smallest flower and stamped it on the envelope front. I also colored it with the blends. TIP: Stick a piece of scrap cardstock in the envelope so the colors don’t bleed through to the back.
I’ll leave you with one last look at the card with the envelope. If you’d like to make this card, the instructions are below. And, at the end of the post, you can find a list of supplies. Clicking on any item will take you to my online store.
