Today I’m hopping with Stamping With Friends using our Monochrome Theme. I’ve got another sympathy card to share. If you want to know the background about why I made this card you can check out my other post here.
Todays Project
Since Sale-a-bration is half over, I wanted to showcase three of the available products. The first is this amazing set called Calming Camellia and it’s available with a party of $300. By the way, the party can be a party of one! This set is a Distinktive set which means it has a special texture that gives such depth when stamped with a single color. Calming Camellia is a perfect choice for a monochrome card.
Since I’m creating a sympathy card, I wanted somber colors. And I wanted the card to be special as it was for the deceased’s daughter. Since the deceased was an avid stamper, I knew I wanted to go all out.
I started with a piece of Whisper White on which I stamped the image in Basic Gray. Then I added a Basic Gray mat. Next, I cut a piece of Basic Gray Simply Marbelous, another Sale-a-bration offering, with a Stitched Rectangle die. To give this layer some depth, I added a thin Basic Black mat before putting it on the Basic Gray card front.
Calming Camellia Detail
These Distinctive Stamps have so much detail, it’s hard to believe that they only need one color. Although, if you’d like to color them, then stamp them in a neutral color and have at it!
For the sentiment, I stamped the sentiment from Special Moments, yet another Sale-a-bration offering, using Basic Gray ink. To create the mat, I cut a Basic Gray die-cut using the smaller die from Seasonal Labels. Of course, the sentiment and mat were the same sizes, so I used the trick of cutting the mat in half the long way before gluing it to the sentiment.
Finally, the card needed some embellishments to finish it off. A triple tied with Basic Gray Shimmery ribbon and three Basic Gray Classic Matte dots did the trick!
Make the Inside Pretty
For the inside, I added a strip of the Simply Marbelous DSP to a piece of Basic White cardstock matted with a Basic Black Layer. This left plenty of room to write what I know will be a long note.
Don’t Forget the envelope
I tried something different with the envelope flap and it worked! First I cut out a flap-sized piece of the Simply Marbelous DSP using the rounded die from the Basic Shapes die set. This took me a couple of tries to get right. I’m not really great at measuring! Next, I glued the DSP to the envelope flap. Then I trimmed the straight side of the DSP to fit the envelope flap and finally I cut the envelope flap to be the same size as the DSP. I just love how it gave me a rounded flap with the stitching along the edge! I’m going to try this with some other dies.
I was so sad when Stampin’ Up discontinued the Embellished Envelope dies. They made such pretty envelopes. But I think I’ve found a way to make my own!
One last Look – Calming Camellia
Here’s one last look at the card from a different angle. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and know that the recipient will love it, because she will remember how much her mother loved to stamp.
