Today, I’m hopping again with the demonstrators from around the world for Crafty Collaborations. On the last Monday of the month, we do a challenge. Sometimes it’s a sketch, sometimes it’s a color challenge, and sometimes it’s a dice roll. But whichever way we’re challenged, it’s fun to stretch creatively. I’ve chosen to use the Desert Details bundle and Delicate Desert DSP for my project.
Today’s Project – Desert Details
The above image is the sketch. Doesn’t it just scream slimline, slimline, slimline? I love slimline cards so this is fine with me. Also, note that there’s no place specified fo the sentiment which gives some freedom to the sketch.
And the above image is my interpretation of the sketch. So the most notable change is that I flipped the sketch on its side. I also flipped the thin strip. I started with a base of Calypso Coral, then put a layer of Delicate Desert DSP on top of it. The next layer is another pattern from the DSP. In fact, it’s the opposite side of the layer beneath it.
This image lets you see the details on the card more clearly. I love the sentiments with this bundle but they were all too long for this card. So, I stamped one of them and then cut it into pieces before attaching it to the card using mini-stampin’ dimensionals.
I also used the border die from the Desert Details dies to create a long strip along the top DSP layer. It wasn’t long enough so I cut two and then hid the seam under the flower. I embellished it with 3 Calypso Coral Iridescent Pastel Gems.
Today’s Color Palette – Desert Details
Today’s color palette is pretty simple and taken directly from the DSP.
Desert Details Bundle
This stamp set is a Distinktive stamp set. This means you get a rich variation of color that almost looks like it was colored and not stamped. You can see that pretty clearly in the pictures of my card. I also like the sentiments. ‘Your smile is pure MAGIC: is my favorite. I also really like the two border scripts. They make beautiful borders.
Even if you don’t like the stamps, these dies are worth buying separately. First, the two frame dies are beautiful. And if you don’t like the little point things on the bigger one, then just trim them off after die-cutting. The edge die not only cuts but also embosses giving wonderful texture to your cards. And that saw-toothed decorative element is both gorgeous and versatile.
Iridescent Pastel Gems
The iridescent gems are so pretty and sparkly in person. They come in three colors – Balmy Blue, Calypso Coral, and Gold.
Make the Inside Pretty – Desert Details
The inside has a Basic White panel decorated with a strip cut from the DSP using the die from the bundle. For this, I had to cut two strips. I didn’t really want something in the middle of the strip, so I just butted them up against each other. You have to look closely at it to see the seam. I also added one of the Soft Succulent die-cuts.
Don’t forget the envelope – Desert Details
I used a Gray Granite envelope from the Slimline Envelopes that Stampin’ Up sells. It was perfect for this card. I covered it with a piece of DSP and then added three die-cuts from Soft Succulent cardstock.
