Today I’m hopping with Stamping with Friends and we have a sketch challenge. I love sketch challenges as they give a framework for the card. Of course, you can change it around a little bit, which you’ll see when a I show you the card. But first, let’s look at the sketch.
This sketch started my creative juices flowing! Just look at all those layers. Plenty of room for thin mats on them and the ability to have a big focal image. I’m in for it all!
Today’s Project – Flowering Fields
I chose to use the Flowering Fields Suite Collection, specifically the Flowering Tulip Stamps, the Tulip Dies, the Brushed Brass Butterflies, and the amazing Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper. This is a mega-suite with two bundles, embellishments, ribbon, and DSP that works with both bundles. I’ll be doing quite a bit with this suite!
Alright, time to get to the actual project! I chose the Flowering Tulips Bundle because if you know me you know I love Tulips or any other spring-flowering bulb or any other flower, really. In fact, I love them so much that I planted almost 1000 bulbs last fall, 300 of which were tulips. I always have to plant 3X what I want – one for me, one for the squirrel, and one for the deer!
Project Detailed Look – Flowering fields DSP
I used two different papers from the Flowering Fields DSP. After I cut them and matted them, they looked a little flat. The Gingham 3D embossing folder solved that problem. A quick run-through the Stampin’ Cut & Embossing machine and lots of yummy texture which you can see in the detail below.
Tulip Dies – Flowering Fields
The tulips on the front were made with the Flowering Tulip Dies. The one on the left is cut from cardstock while the one on the right was cut from the DSP. It wasn’t my plan to use different mediums for the tulips. I was just playing around until I found two I like and these were the ones! On that note, it took me a while to figure out the dies. I think I’m going to do a tutorial on how to use them. As you can see below, there are a lot of them and it’s not clear how to use them together!
After stamping the stem and leaf images on Basic White using Evening Evergreen ink and then cutting them out with the Tulip dies, I didn’t like how much white there was. It was like a beacon in the night! So, I colored them in sloppily with my Evening Evergreen blends. Not only did that quench the beacon, but it also made them look more realistic because of the shading.
The sentiment from the stamp set was stamped in Rich Razzleberry ink on Fresh Freesia cardstock. The Rich Razzleberry layer was also embossed using the Gingham 3D embossing folder. And, of course, I used the layering circle dies. I haven’t been matting with the scalloped circles lately because I’m liking the cleaner look of just two circles.
The Brushed Brass Butterfly adds a little bling to one of the tulips. These butterflies are so adorable. Hard to say but cute to use!
Today’s Color Scheme – Flowering Fields
Today’s color scheme was pulled directly from the DSP which has so many different colors in it. Just look at all those colors in it. It’s practically a full rainbow!
Make the Inside Pretty – Tulip Dies
The Tulip Dies have this great floral border that I used for the inside of my card. It was simple to cut out and is a little different than just a stamped image or a strip of DSP. I’m trying out some new ideas for the inside of my cards.
Don’t Forget the Envelope
Well, I couldn’t showcase this suite without doing a little stamping! So, I partially stamped the stem and larger leaf using Evening Evergreen. Then two-step stamping Fresh Freesia and Rich Razzleberry stamped off created the flower.
You may have noticed that I also put some of the DSP on the envelope flap. I’m a pink and purple person, so, of course, that pattern is one of my favorites!
