Today’s card is all about Gingerbread for a Sketch Challenge for Crafty Collaborations.
Crafty Collaborations
Crafty Collaborations is composed of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in multiple collaborative projects including blog hops, like this one, tutorials, and swaps to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.
Today’s Project
Here’s the sketch we were challenged with. I love this layout. It’s one of my favorites!
And, here’s the card I made.
I love gingerbread – not eating it but making it. When my daughter was 2 I bought a gingerbread house kit. From that, it went on to elaborate gingerbread house parties where each of her friends got their own house to decorate with a table full of candies to decorate them with. And, even though, they’re all grown up with kids of their own, we continued the tradition until Covid struck. I’m sure when this is over, we’ll be back to it.
So when I saw the Gingerbread & Peppermint Suite, I knew I had to have it! I love all the images (although I would like a gingerbread person). And the colors and accessories are so cute.
Today’s card is very monochromatic. Just gingerbread & icing! I love that Cinnamon Cider is so close to the real color of gingerbread. I will probably keep it around after it retires just for invitations and place cards for my yearly party!
To make the sentiment stand out, I stamped it in Versamark, sprinkled it with white embossing powder, and heat set it. The magic of heat embossing gets me every time! Popping it up on dimensionals makes it look like the bow on a wrapped package!
I played with various embellishments, especially the acrylic shapes that are part of the suite. I decided I liked the monochromatic version best.
Make the Inside Pretty
For the inside, I cut two edge pieces with the border die from the Gingerbread Dies. I sandwiched a Basic White panel between them to give room for a greeting, note, or signature.
Don’t Forget the Envelope
I went a little overboard on the envelope. As you can see in the image above, I used the same DSP on the flap as I did on the card front. if you look at the first image, you can see that I put an iced star on the front of the envelope.
Whenever I have a delicate die-cut to attach, I use adhesive sheets. I put the adhesive on one side of the paper and then cut out the image. An extra bonus is that when you pull off the adhesive, all the little bits come with it!
Now it’s time for some more collaborative fun. Grab a beverage, sit back and enjoy the hop! You should find some awesome ideas and inspiration as others share their projects made with the Waves of the Ocean suite.
If you’d like to try to recreate this card, you can find a list of the products I used at the end of this post. Need a demonstrator or a catalog? Drop me a line and I’ll put one in the mail.
