Today I’m saying goodbye to Stitched Triangles dies. The dies are so versatile They make cute Christmas trees, great accents on cards, and, as is the case with my card, they can even be the focal point.
Stamping with Friends is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who get together twice a month to share their creativity to inspire you and each other. Today’s theme is retiring products. Yep, the new 2022-2023 Annual Catalog goes live on May 3. And with so many new products, something has to go. And, this blog hop will inspire you to get the retiring products while they last.
Today’s Project – Goodbye Stitched Triangles
In addition to using the Stitched Rectangles dies, I used the also retiring Expressions in Ink Designer Series Paper (DSP). I just love the patterns in this paper, especially the touches of gold. To start my card, I cut 8 triangles using the Stitched Rectangle dies, making sure to line up the die as close to the previous cut as possible. By doing this, the design flows across the triangles.
After cutting the triangles, I glued them to a piece of Basic White cardstock using liquid glue. After they dried, I cut the overhand off, then mounted that panel on a piece of Gold cardstock.
For the sentiment, stamp the “Happy Birthday” from the also retiring Flowing Flowers stamp set using Versamark ink on a Basic White Panel. Then add Gold Embossing Powder and heat with the Heat Tool. Finally, add the focal image and attach it to the Polished Pink card front.
I think the font on the Happy Birthday sentiment really pairs well with the Gold elements and feel of the card. I’m really sad to see that stamp set go. The flowers are gorgeous and can be colored or not because of the way the stamp is manufactured.
Today’s Color Palette
It took me a little bit of time to come up with this color palette. This card is a perfect example of why I precut my cardstock. First I tried the triangles on a Polished Pink base. Too much pink, even for me. Then I put them on Basic White which looks good and made the final card. But, then I put the focal image on another piece of DSP from Expressions in Ink where the color was Just Jade/Evening Evergreen. Woah… way too busy and distracting. My eye didn’t know where to look. Then I tried a White on White card. But, that was a little too boring. There was a Polished Pink card base laying on my desk. And, BINGO, it worked. I might have given up earlier trying to find the perfect combo. But, because my cardstock is precut, I only had to reach in a drawer or look around to find another thing to try!
Make the Inside Pretty
I continued the Gold/Pink colors on the inside by adding a strip of the DSP with the same pattern and Gold strips above and below. In retrospect, I wish I had made the Gold strips a little more narrow. They overpower the DSP a bit.
Don’t Forget the Envelope
For the envelope, I used my tried-and-true trick of covering the flap in a piece of coordinating DSP and trimming to fit. Easy-peasy!
Today’s project was full of retiring projects – Stitched Rectangles, dies, Flowing Flowers stamp set, and Expressions in Ink DSP. All are available until May 3 or while supplies last. Get yours before they’re gone forever!
