Today’s Blog Hop is a color challenge using the colors Flirty Flamingo, Blushing Brides, and So Saffron. I decided to use the Hello Beautiful Bundle which contains the Hello Beautiful stamp set and the Beautiful Shapes dies.
I love the abstract shapes in the stamp set and the greetings are great. The hexagon dies make great borders. And, you can’t see the detail, but those two blobs in the upper write have interesting embossing on them, making them perfect for labels.
Today’s Color Palette
In addition to the 3 colors from the challenge, I added Mint Macaron and Basic Black. As you can see from my card, they were essential.
Today’s Project – Hello Beautiful
Color challenges really challenge me. I usually find a sketch that I can work the colors into. So, when I saw this layout on the web recently from JanB Cards, I knew I could make it work. I started with a 5 1/4″ X 4″ piece of Basic White. And then stamped the floral images from Hello Beautiful using Flirty Flamingo, Blushing Bride, and So Saffron. Then I added leaves using Mint Macaron and accents in Basic Black. Basically, I made my own DSP!
Cutting Template
The first step is to cut the DSP to 4″ X 3 1/2″ saving the leftovers for the inside and the envelope. Then, cut the vertical strips. The key to making this design work is matching up the pattern across the vertical layers. So once the layers are cut, take off the specified amount from the top and bottom. You can’t cut the entire amount from one end because the pattern won’t match.
After the strips are cut, work on the mats. They’re the size of the strip + 1/8″. For example, the middle string is 3 1/2″ X 1″. So, the mat layer would be 3 5/8″ X 1 1/8″. After cutting the mats, glue the DSP to the mat using liquid glue which gives you a second of wiggle room on the narrow margins.
To give some extra texture to the front, emboss the Basic White panel with the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder. Adhere the strips, and add it to a 5 3/8″ X 4 1/8″ panel of Flirty Flamingo and then attach it to a Blushing Bride card base.
The hexagon dies are perfect for the sentiment. Finish it off with 3 Adhesive Backed Hexagons.
Make the Inside Pretty – Hello Beautiful
One of the scraps left from cutting the strips was glued to a Basic White panel. That panel was attached to a Flirty Flamingo layer which was attached to the card base.
Don’t Forget the Envelope – Hello Beautiful
Attach the other leftover piece to the bottom left of the envelope front to decorate the envelope.
I hope you were inspired by today’s card. Now it’s time to check out the rest of the projects. You’re sure to get lots of inspiration!
