My grandson loves chickens. He sees chickens everywhere and even chases the cat pretending he’s a chicken. So I made him this Hello with Hey Chick card.
Today’s Project
This card uses a lot of die-cuts. In fact, it’s mostly die-cuts with minimal stamping. You’ll also notice it’s a slimline card. Instead of the usual 5 1/2″ X 4 1/4″ card, it’s 8 1/2″ X 7″ and fits in a business-sized envelope. I love slimline cards for creating ‘scenes’. The extra length gives you more space to play with.
I knew I wanted to do cornstalks and a picket fence because the house he’s living in now has a picket fence and overlooks a cornfield! I love how the dies emboss as they cut so that there is texture on the corn cobs and the fence! I could have also inked the elements to give them even more depth, but this card is for a 3 year old who wouldn’t appreciate that so much!
I made the back ground using Stampin’ Up!’s new blending brushes. I LOVE them. They make is so easy to create backgrounds and other affects and they shade better than using a sponge or dauber. The key to making them work is to start off your background after reinking and slowly swirl onto your back ground. This avoids splotches!
Cutting the chicken coop also embossed it, but it didn’t pop for me. So I took a Soft Suede marker and outlines some of the embossing to make it pop.
I just love the little chicks and the feed that are part of the Birthday Chick dies. They add a lot of interest and were pretty easy to cut out.
The sweet ‘Hello’ sentiment is from the Snailed It stamp set, another one of my favorites. In fact, I’ll probably make another card for him with that set.
Don’t forget the envelope
I used the ‘Happy Mail Enclosed’ stamp from the Snailed It stamp set to add an element to the front of the envelope.
Normally, I’d also show you the inside of the card. But, today I can’t because I’ve already written my message on it!
Here’s one more look at the card along with some of the supplies used to make it.
If you’d like to try to recreate this card, you can find a list of the products I used at the end of this post. Need a demonstrator or a catalog? Drop me a line and I’ll put one in the mail. And, f you ever have any questions, please feel free to comment or email me. And, don’t forget to Pin this post so you can find it again!
