Today Crafty Collaborations is holding a fantasy blog hop. I was totally stumped and spent some time this weekend playing with all kinds of ideas and wasn’t happy with any of them. Finally, I gave in and made a quick card with the unicorn from the Hippo Happiness dies.
Today’s Project
This card was inspired by my daughter’s love of Care Bears when she was a little one. She loved her Care Bears! So I created a unicorn sitting o a cloud at the end of a rainbow. First, I cut a template using the Basic Borders cloud-shaped die. Using Balmy Blue ink and blending brushes, I created clouds across a 4″ X 5 1/4″ piece of Basic White Cardstock.
Now that I had my clouds and sky, I used the Brilliant Rainbow dies to cut a rainbow in the sky. Then I backed the rainbow with Mother of Pearl Specialty paper. This paper is soooo sparkly and hard to color. It looks a little streaky in the picture, but in person, it’s sparkly gorgeous. Which is just what you expect in a fantasy!. Finally, I attached the front to a card base of Fresh Freesia because all unicorns love purple.
The cute little unicorn from Hippo Happiness sitting on a cloud finishes the front of the card. Oh, except for the sentiment in Gorgeous Grape. I stamped the sentiment directly on the card and then it smeared! I decided not to remake the card but just fixed the oops by re-stamping the sentiment on a separate piece of cardstock and attached it over the oops with dimensionals.
Today’s Color Combo
There are really two color combos on this card. The first is obviously the rainbow. I wanted more muted colors to go with the purples. The purples are the unicorn and card base colors. I wish there was a way to get a softer red.
Make the INside Pretty
For the inside, I used the same cloud template with Balmy Blue ink to create clouds. They are soft enough that a message could be written over them.
Don’T Forget the envelope
I covered both sides of the envelope with the same clouds as on the card front and inside. And then I stamped the unicorn again on the envelope front.
I’ll leave you with one last view of my unicorn. I wish you could see it in person, the rainbow just sparkles and doesn’t look so streaky. It’s a fun card that I’m going to send to my niece’s daughter who is just the right age to love unicorns and rainbows.
Now it’s time to see what the other Crafty Collaborations have come up with. I can’t wait to see their fantasy creations!
I hope you enjoyed today’s card. You can find a list of supplies I used at the end of this post. If you need a demonstrator, I’d love to be yours. If you need a catalog, email me at candi@stampwithcandi.com, and I’ll pop one in the mail.
