Today is Crafty Collaborations Paper Pumpkin Blog Hop where demonstrators from around the world will share what they’ve made with the Paper Pumpkin February 2023 kit- Sunshine & Smiles. And oh my goodness what a kit this is! I love, love loved it. I had to stop at 7 alternates because I ran out of time but I sure had a lot more ideas!
Today’s Projects – Paper Pumpkin February 2023
As you can see, I have seven alternatives to share with you. And I love every one of them! This kit is just so cute. And for me the best part is it coordinates beautifully with the Rain or Shine suite from the January-April mini catalog. The Rain or Shine suite is one of my favorites in the catalog. The images are fun and the paper is amazingly cute. Usually, I have some paper left over. Maybe I didn’t like one pattern or I didn’t have enough left for a class. But for this paper after using it on some of my alternatives, I am reduced to a handful of scraps. It’s just that easy to use!

In addition to the kit contents shown below, this kit also had two add-on dies that cut out stamped images from the kit. And the stamped frog is identical to the die-cut frog included in the kit I used both in one of my cards and you really can’t tell the difference!
As you can see in the image above, this kit has 3 card designs, beautiful envelopes, and cute die-cuts. It also has a stamp set, dimensionals, embellishments, and a Mango Melody Stampin’ Spot. And the cards are so cute as designed that you really don’t need to make alternates. But, of course, I did! So let’s get to them.
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 1
When I first saw the as-is cards, the first thing that jumped into my head was ‘Shaker Cards’! So I made the first one into a shaker card pretty much as designed. I changed up the sentiment and the embellishment placement, but that’s pretty much it. I used Loos Flower Flourishes as the shaker bits to continue with the flower theme.
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 2
Again, for this card, I made it as designed except made it a shaker. I used all 3 colors of the Sequins for Everything for the shaker bits. Also when stamped the sun it wasn’t dark enough and the pink lines were shining through. So I used a Mango Melody marker to color it in. to make it dark enough.
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 3
This is the third as-is design. I made a few changes. The cloud and the flowers are on springs so they move around. And I only used green and pink sequins. The extra flower is from the Rain or Shine DSP which I fussy cut. And I put one of the clouds behind the window sheet and one on top.
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 4
I started this alternative by stamping the sun all over a Mango Melody card base. Then I added a piece of the rainbow background from one of the kit’s cards which I matted with another piece of Mango Melody Then I stamped & fussy cut a sun. The frog and flowers were stamped and colored before cutting them out using the add-on dies. You really can’t tell that they weren’t part of the kit!
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 5
The background on this card was a happy accident. When cutting the background for the previous card, the leftover scrap fell on another of the same background and lined up like this I thought it looked like hills of rainbows, so I made it the focal point for this card. I added a cloud 3 frogs, and some flowers to fill it up. Some of the frogs are part of the kit and one was stamped and die-cut using the extra dies. I also used springs to attach them to the card, so they jump around when you move the card.
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 6
For this alternative, I used some DSP scraps on my desk from the Rain or Shine DSP which I mounted on a Thick Basic White card base. The rest of the elements are directly from the kit. I love the way the chick looks like it’s staring at the clouds.
Paper Pumpkin February 2023 – Alternate 7
For my last alternative, I used the sunnier piece of Rain or Shine DSP. This one makes me smile. It’s a sunny day and a nice day to fly a kite. So the four friends got together to do just that.
I hope my Paper Pumpkin February 2023 alternatives inspire you to do more with your kit! Thanks for stopping by to look at them! Now it’s time for more crafty inspiration. So, grab a beverage, sit back and relax, and enjoy the hop!
