Stamping with Friends is having another blog hop today! We hop on the first and third Saturday of each month. I’m glad you could join us today as we show you beautiful projects made with products from the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog which went live on May 1. I’ve chosen to show you a project using the Potted Geraniums Bundle.
Today’s Project – Potted Geraniums
Earlier in the week, I posted here about baking cookies with my grandson. Today’s post is a tribute to my grandmother. She loved geraniums. Her house had red & white striped awnings and pots of red geraniums on the front steps. Her house was such a welcoming place where you always felt loved. She was an awesome cook and ran the cafeteria at the parish school. She always knew who was having trouble with keeping food on the table and would cook a little extra so she could send leftovers home with those kids. I am reminded of her every day as I look at my teacup collection which she gifted me on my birthdays. She’s been gone a very long time but will always have a place in my heart.
Today’s Color Palette
Although red geraniums were my grandmother’s favorite and are also mine, I wanted to make a card with bright spring colors. I chose Granny Apple Green for the leaf stems and veins and Parakeet Party for the leaves. Polished Pink is the perfect pink geranium color. Plus, the 2021-2023 In Color Opal Rounds were the perfect bling to finish off this card. I also used Very Vanilla on the front because it softens the colors a bit, just like spring.
Potted Geraniums Bundle
This bundle contains a photopolymer stamp set and dies. The leaves, flowers, and pots are two-step images that are perfect for photopolymer stamps because you can see through them to line up the images. The mixed font sentiments are warm and caring. I used the “Reaching out with friendship & caring” sentiment because it epitomizes my grandmother.
Not only do the dies cut out the stamped images, but they can also create a geranium that hasn’t been stamped. Plus, there’s a very pretty label die that could be used with other sentiments.
One more benefit – when you buy the bundle you save 10% over the cost of buying the stamp set and dies separately!
Did you notice the sentiment was cut with a stitched banner die? I used a die from a must-have set – Stylish Shapes. They are a replacement for the old Stitched Shape dies, but I like these better because they have the stitched banners in addition to circles and squares! Take a look.
The set contains 5 stitched squares, 6 stitched circles, and 4 stitched banners. Seriously, you have to get this set!
This image shows the embossed layer more clearly, although it’s still hard to see the effect of the new Cascading Ruffles 3-D embossing folder. I’m sure I’m going to be using that one a lot since it has such an interesting texture.
I used a mixture of liquid glue and dimensionals to attach the elements to the card front. the Cajun Craze pot rim was attached to the pot using small black mini-dimensionals. The pot itself has 3 strategically placed dimensionals so that the flower stem could slide between them. Once the pot was in place, the leaves were next. There is liquid glue on the back of the leaves, but not on the stem that slides down into the pot. Next, I glued one set of flowers on top of the leaves towards the left. The second set of flowers was attached using dimensionals. Finally, I used a dimensional on the little plant spike which I then tucked into the pot. The sentiment had one dimensional on each end so that it lay nicely on the pot.
Make the Inside Pretty
I stamped the leaves and the flower using the same colors as on the card front. However, since I wasn’t using dimensionals, I cut a mask using the new Masking Paper and the flower die. I stamped one flower, then I put the mask on it, then I stamped the other flower. This gives the look that one flower is behind the other. The new masking paper plus dies make this so easy to do! You can also use the paper to make your own stencils for some fun looks.
Don’t Forget the envelope
I treated the envelope the same as the inside. This image clearly shows how I stamped the flowers for this card. I used Polished Pink stamped off once for the background color and Polished Pink full strength for the detailed flower image.
