Today is another Crafty Collaborations blog hop where we’re sharing rainbow cards. When I first saw the topic, I was soooo excited. Stampin’ Up! has the Rainbows of Happiness bundle which has stamps and dies to make Rainbows. And, Sale-a-bration has the cute, cute, cute Sunshine & Rainbows DSP for free with a $50 purchase. Easy, peasy, right? Sigh, but everyone is going to use them because they are rainbows. Then as I sat staring out my window thinking about spring and the snow melting and my garden, I had my inspiration! I was going to make a rainbow of tulips!
Today’s Project
The card base is Evening Evergreen topped with a Crumb Cake panel which has an embossed vellum layer on top of it. I’m really liking the way this looks as you can see in this post and this post. Evening Evergreen Windowpane Checked ribbon was wrapped around the Crumb Cake layer before attaching it to the card front.
Next, I cut 6 tulips using the largest Tulip dies out of vellum. I wanted soft flowers with some variation in color, just like I’d see out my window. Then coloring with blends, I made the tulips – Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Night of Navy, and Highland Heather. I don’t recall ever seeing Green Tulips, but I think if I searched hard enough I’d find some that start green and end as yellow.
Continuing the vellum theme, I added stems and leaves cut from vellum and colored with Evening Everygreen blends. Finally, an Evening Evergreen Windowpane ribbon tied around the rainbow tulips bouquet finishes it off.
The sentiment is from the Amazing Thanks dies and cut using Evening Evergreen and Crumb Cake cardstock. And, then I realized, I no stamping on this card!
Finally, I added one Brushed Brass Butterfly to hide the glue dot that holds the yellow tulip together.
Today’s Color Palette
As you can see, today’s palette is really a rainbow of color!
Make the INside Pretty
To continue the vellum theme, I used it for the inside, too. I cut the flower edge die from vellum and then used the blends to color each flower in rainbow order.
Don’t forget the Envelope
Again, I used one of my new favorite techniques on the envelope. I embossed it with the same embossing folder as used on the card front. I just love the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder for this. It’s subtle but impactful. And then, I used the Basics Borders dies to cut the edge to create a curved, stitched edge.
Here’s another look at my rainbow tulips. Do you think it looks like a rainbow? I just love how soft the vellum makes them look!
Now it’s time for some more collaborative fun. Grab a beverage, sit back and enjoy the hop! You should find some awesome ideas and inspiration as others share their projects made with the Waves of the Ocean suite.
If you’d like to try to recreate this card, you can find a list of the products I used at the end of this post. Need a demonstrator or a catalog? Drop me a line and I’ll put one in the mail. And, f you ever have any questions, please feel free to comment or email me. And, don’t forget to Pin this post so you can find it again!
