Today’s Stamping with Friends Blog Hop is focusing on the Magic Slider technique. This is a fun, interactive technique and great for kids’ cards. I chose to use the Rhino Ready Bundle for my card. Let’s take a peek.
Today’s Project – Rhino Ready
When the card is ‘closed’, you see a black outlined image of the rhino. Now many times magic slider cards aren’t as decorated as mine. But, if you’ve followed me at all, you know I struggle with simple cards. So, of course, I stepped it up a bit. I took some cues from Patty Bennett another Stampin’ Up! demonstrator whose work I really admire. Of course, I changed more than a few things to make it my own.
I started with a base of Soft Seafoam. Then I took a piece of the silver Naturally Gilded Specialty DSP and using blending brushes colored the bottom with Shaded Spruce and the top with Tahitian Tide. After stamping the grass with Shaded Spruce ink on Soft Seafoam cardstock, I attached them to the bottom of the card using dimensionals.
The Textured Shimmer paper makes the trees and leaves sparkle. The image on the front of the card is stamped with Stazon ink on a piece of window sheet.
And here’s the magic. When you pull on the Pool Pary ribbon, the rhino is colored! The way this works is that there’s a piece in the middle of the card, that separates them when you pull on the ribbon, they come together like magic.
Today’s Color Palette
I wanted to use the Texture Shimmer paper for the leaves, which meant I needed to use Shaded Spruce as a color. Then I added Soft Seafoam because it pairs well with Shaded Spruce. What gray works well with Shaded Spruce? Gray Granite for the win! And the bird needed to be a pop of color so Tahitian Tide was perfect.
Rhino Ready
These cute rhinos are part of the Online Exclusives, an offering by Stampin’ Up! that only appears online and not in any catalog. Stampin’ Up! will release these 3 times a year – March, July, and October to refresh their offering with newer, trendy, or niche projects. I love the idea because I’m always looking for new stuff!
Naturally Gilded DSP
This DSP is also part of the Online Exclusives offerings. It contains 3 shiny colors – Copper, Silver, and Gold. It is so shiny in person!
I used the Silver pattern for my card and used the Blending Brushes to add color to the background. The foil part resists the color so you get a colored background with shiny silver trees!
Don’t forget the Envelope
For the envelope, I used one of the extra birds I had colored and die-cut and glued him to the envelope front.
Time to Hop
I hope you enjoyed my slider card and it inspires you to create one of your own. If you ever have questions about my cards please email me at candi@stampwithcandi.com. And, now it’s time for more inspiration from other Friends. So grab a beverage, sit back and relax, and enjoy the hop.
