Today’s challenge for Technique Tuesday is a scoring challenge. I’m going to use The Sparkle of The Season bundle to demonstrate how to use scoring to frame an image.
Crafty Collaborations
Crafty Collaborations is composed of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in multiple collaborative projects including blog hops, like this one, tutorials, and swaps to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.
Today’s Project
For today’s project, I use the Sparkle of the Season bundle. This set is so versatile because it covers Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The card front itself is farily simple – a wreath decorated with pumpkins and some extra fields, a sentiment punched with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch, and a linen thread bow.
What add some subtle texture and a frame for wreath is the scoring. Take a look at the detail.
I scored the Merry Merlot layer at 1/4″ and 1/2″, first on the long side, then on the short side. It’s important to do the sides in pairs to get the overlap even. For this part of the card, I used the embossed side.
Today’s Color Palette
I chose a very fall palette to go with my fall theme. I love the use of the Merry Merlot as the neutral in this scheme.
Make the Inside Pretty
For the inside I glued three of the leaves to the Basic White panel. Before gluing, I also scored the Basic White panel. This time I used the debossed side. Here’s a closer look.
Just as with the front, I scored the long sides first and then the short sides.
Don’t Forget the Envelope
Keeping with the scoring theme, I scored the envelope flap, using the same 1/4″ distance. It is a subtle effect but looks great in person! Here’s a closer look.
This angle really makes the scoring pop.
I also added a few leaves to the envelope front, just to finish it off.
Now it’s time for some more collaborative fun. Grab a beverage, sit back and enjoy the hop! You should find some awesome ideas and inspiration as others share their projects made with the Waves of the Ocean suite.
Here’s one last look at the card. You can really see the scoring with this angle.
If you’d like to try to recreate this card, you can find a list of the products I used at the end of this post. Need a demonstrator or a catalog? Drop me a line and I’ll put one in the mail.
