Today I’m hopping with Stamping with Friends, a group of international demonstrators who challenge each other’s creativity on the first and third Saturday of every month. Today’s challenge is to make a card using strips. You know, we all have cardstock strips from trimming our cardstock. I chose to use the Storybook Gnomes Suite which can be found in the new July – December Mini Catalog.
Today’s Project – Storybook GNomes with Floating Strip
To create the floating strip, I cut Poppy Parade cardstock into 3/8″ strips and attached them to a piece of Window Sheet using Stampin’ Seal. Then I cut it into a circle using the Layering Circles dies. Pop it up with Stampin’ Dimensionals and it looks like the strips are floating above the card. In the first version of this card, I used 1/4″ strips. I replaced them with slightly larger strips so that the dimensionals don’t show. You can see the difference in the picture with the envelope and this one.
The sentiment is from the Cottage Rose stamp set and was chosen because I wanted a birthday sentiment that wouldn’t overpower the elements on the card. I wanted the gnome to shine.
I love the new Storybook Gnomes Suite. The colors are bright and cheerful and the stamp and dies are so cute. They also work for both Christmas/Winter and other occasions. And best of all? The dies cut out the images from the DSP. Which is how I got the Gnome & the Gnome House on my card.
StoryBook Gnomes Suite
The suite includes the Kindest Gnome Bundle, the Storybook Gnomes Designer Series Paper, Balmy Blue & Basic White ribbon, Fine Sparkle Adhesive Backed Gems, and Snowfall Accents Puff Paint.
The stamp set has a variety of gnomes that have matching dies, a gnome house with a matching die, and some cute sentiments. The dies also contain elements that don’t match with stamps. As you can see, there are dies for some grass, mushrooms, and dies that let you build your own gnome! How fun!
Here’s a closer look at one of the patterns on the DSP. These gnomes have matching dies. I love when Stampin’ Up! does that! It just adds another dimension of creativity.
Here’s a look at the second piece of DSP that I used. Like with the gnomes, this paper also has a matching die. I just love these little houses. They are so cute and colorful!
Today’s Color Palette
The two-color palette was taken directly from the DSP. I haven’t used Poppy Parade and Pool Party together. I like it as much as I do Real Red and Pool Party together.
Make the Inside Pretty
I continued the strip theme on the inside by adding a strip to the top & bottom of the Basic White inner panel.
Don’t Forget the envelope
I had two choices for the envelope. I could use some of this fun DSP on the envelope flap. Or, I could do something with the strips. I chose the strips. On my first attempt, I had a column of strips running up the left side of the envelope flap. The reason you’re not seeing that is I couldn’t get them straight and even. So, I gave up and just did a single strip.
Here’s one last look at my card before I send you on your way.
Time to Hop
I hope my floating strip card inspired you to make one of your own! But now, it’s time to see what the others have in store for you. So, grab a beverage, sit back, relax, and enjoy the hop!
The July – December mini catalog is live and it’s gorgeous. Need one? Drop me a note here.
