It’s Technique Tuesday for Crafty Collaborations and today’s hop is about watercolor techniques. My projects show a different twist on it, instead of stamping an image and then watercolor I watercolored the paper and then stamped and die-cut the stamped images.
Today’s Projects – Watercolor Techniques
I was in a box-making mood when I started this post, so I went with it. Boxes are really quite easy once you’ve done a couple and know where to cut and fold. I also like making my walls double-folded. It makes the box sturdier and makes the inside finished.
For the Daffodil Delight box, I started with a 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock and scored it at 2″ and 4″ on all four sides. On each corner cut out the 3 outside boxes, the on two sides cut up to the first score line. Then fold and glue. This makes the top. For the bottom, trim the 12 x 12 cardstock by 1/8″ on two sides. Then follow the same directions as the top.
The Night of Navy box starts with the same bottom as the Daffodil Delight. The top is a little different because I only wanted a 1″ side. So, cut the Night of Navy to 8″ x 8″ and then score at 1″ and 2″ on all four sides.
For the water coloring, I first wetted both sides of two pieces of fluid 100 watercolor paper. Wetting both sides prevents it from curling. Then I mixed colors as described below.

For these flowers and leaves, I put one drop of each re-inker on the wet paper. Then I used my water painter to move the color around. Until I was happy with it. This method gives more intense colors. but still has a water color look.

For the blue flowers and leaves, I used spritzers to apply the color. So, I put a drop of re-inker and spritzed it. Then cleaned out the spritzer and did it again. This gives a softer look as you can see the difference between the two sets of flowers and leaves.
I had some leftover flowers so I made two 3 x 3 cards to go with them and also decorated the envelope. I also added some bling using the Loose Frosted Dots. These are part of the Online Exclusives and are really beautiful in person.
I hope you enjoyed my projects and that they inspire you to try some water color techniques. Now it’s time to see some more techniques. So, grab a beverage, sit back and relax, and enjoy the hop.
